Directing

James Bell is a theatre director inspired by innovative traditional storytelling. He has directed a range of works from Shakespeare to new writing.

His productions of The 39 Steps (2013) and Midsummer Night's Dream (2017) have won Best Comedy at the ACTT theatre awards and Leo Rising (2014) was voted audience favourite at the wildcard performance of the Auckland Short+Sweet Festival in 2014.

James trained in theatre craft at the University of Auckland and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
